A guide to natural skincare for men

Natural Skincare Products- A New fad?

Men’s skin grooming is booming- The Groom Boom is a very real phenomenon. Real men don’t do skincare is a very toxic old school masculinity outlook that is on the decline. The entirety of the gender is evolving and is on a path of discovering quality men’s skincare products. This is being reflected in the industry. Specialized products targeted at men (made specifically for their body chemistry) are flooding the markets.

Parallelly, the age of the internet has given customers the power of information which has made them realize that most skincare products have hidden chemicals in them. As a solution to this  Natural Skincare Products have become the new wave shaking up men’s skincare products

Natural skincare products used to be seen only in specialty stores with their iconic green packaging with multiple leaves on them. ‘Natural’ is a vast, ambiguous term and even though it’s growing in popularity, it's not very regulated. This means that companies could try to ‘green wash’ their products to their customers. Greenwashing is when brands try to flex and claim their products to be more natural than they are by using vaguely ‘green’ terms.

There are a lot of labels that come under the umbrella of Natural Skincare Products. Let’s try and understand them;

  • Organic skin care products

Organic skin care products need to adhere to very stringent guidelines. To qualify to be called organic, its ingredients must be organically grown following organic processes - this includes the soil in which they are cultivated being certified organic and entirely toxin-free. Toxic substances like pesticides or industrial fertilizers are prohibited from use in cultivation under any circumstance whatsoever.

True believers use solar power for our lights, a system that involves zero water waste and boasts a recycling rate of more than 90%! Organic skin care products should be free of chemical toxins like parabens, SLS, synthetic fragrances and artificial colour.

  • Vegan Skincare Products

Vegan skincare products do not use any animal products in it’s making. This is a difficult task as dairy, honey, etc. derived from animals all are used in skincare products. Technically, products can qualify as vegan even if you have synthetic ingredients, as long as it is not derived from animal sources Vegan beauty is cruelty-free and does not support animal testing.

  • Clean Beauty

Clean beauty is another trending term. This takes a more sensible and practical approach to skincare. This philosophy is all about using the least number of non-toxic ingredients to get the desired result. It’s about minimising the exposure to harmful chemical substances by always picking the least toxic choice

Pure Brown Pro Tip:

Always read the labels. If the list of ingredients on the back of the pack is long and complex, the less the chance of it being totally natural or organic.
